That is why it should be private. We do not need an inoffical rating to be the standard for dota 2 and it would be nice if we could know how the rating is calculated.
Bad players are discriminated against in every single competative game, why should dota be any different? especially when its arguably one of the most competative games in esports.
u dun hef to be mad its only an accurate description of where the (matchmaking) places you.

Did you guys just forget about the whole part where players that you are going to party with will ask for your rating and then they realize that the rating sucks and they are not going to play with you anymore?
I play pubs half of the time we lose half of the time we win, or even most of the time we lose, do you know what will happen to the ratings? you guessed it, it will fall down, now you know why it should be kept private?
DoTA communities are the harshest of all environments and people are not going to cut down the tone in which they speak. Even if its a competative game it should not be given this rating thing where players are only going to be judged upon, its like the whole grading system again where kids are graded by how many have they memorized but not understanding a single thing.
Or at the very least it should be optional, only those SUPER PRO's that call others noobs are going to boast out their ratings, I play very fine(try me) and I don't want people judging my freaking entire play by just looking at a bunch of numbers that doesn't even connect as to how exactly you play a freaking hero.
All I can say is deal with it.
Bad players are already called out for performing horribly in-game without any sort of ranking system. I don't think it'll be much of a problem.
To the poster above: sounds like you're whining and this has happened to you in other games. I'm not sure why you'd even want to play with players who judge you based on your ranking.
