DotaBuff (Plus) Features, Ideas in General Discussion
J..OothhhhhHh

So I bit the dust last night and thought of signing up on Plus to see what it has to offer, and also as a sign of support for the team being a developer myself.

The concept and idea behind it, to me is brilliant. Having dashboard, news feed and summary page being seamlessly provided. Being a casual dota player, I've always been fascinated, and numbers always intrigues me. But that is also where I get a little nit picky.

While graphs, numbers, are fantastic features in a large data set, you'll have to wonder how much of it becomes relevant when you actually look at them. One glance on info such as last hit, denies and dota observers will being a support, utility and carry player each carries different weights on those data. I know there is no other way to circumvent around this, and unless the valve engine prompts the player which role they are actually playing, there's no API call that can be made to determine what role each player is playing. And I suppose that at this stage there no way where we can envisage supports being glorified numbers wise compared to players where the role is defined as game impact using KDAs. Of course unless we can somehow also track the number of wards purchased in a game. But that's ambitious, non-feasible, and doesn't seem to serve much except provide, another set of numbers to work around.

I suppose the question is on this, is DotaBuff and the team working on something to provide a closer indication of the players "score", especially those not displayed in KDAs (supports mainly)? I know, it all boils down to limitations that your team has at the end of the day, not having control of the data that can be provided in game, as this may be more of a Valve thing. But as you guys have figured an innovative way to come out with players score, and put them in rankings, what can we do to paint a closer picture for supports contribution to the game?

Which also brings me to another batch of questions for Plus. It seems like there's a way for the dotabuff team to pull in game bracket, either based on one API call for the level of game, or by using an algorithm to add up scores and calculate the level of game. It'll be interesting for individual users such as myself to know the skill bracket games that was just concluded. Head to the HEROES tab, under Top Performances, games in there seems to be filtered according to bracket. Can we not have each individual (PLUS) check the game level he has played in?

Instead of just providing the WORLD in a glance, hero scores, can we not have hero scores for our own individual pages? I'm sure as a database structure each player will have all this information for the heroes they have played stored individually. It'll be interesting note to see how we rank against the "Top Players" using the Dotabuff score system.

Lastly, this site seems to have a devoted community, albeit small in number but at least interested with the concept of adopted here. Perhaps the team in DotaBuff will be able to share projects in the pipeline, or at the very least, open up a forum of discussion on future implementations (NB: Have it moderated extensively). I'm sure there are one or two ideas within the community which can strike accord with the DB team, that will enhance this site features.

    Could be a win-win situation.
