stop being so worried, changing hotkeys takes less than a week to get used to. i've done it with WC3 ladder, and legacy to qwer. NOT hard to switch.
qwer is superior anyways. but invoker is the toughest to get used to
never ever gonna use League of lesbians hotkeys
legacy #1 fuck invoker until it works properly
fuck micro units till they work properly
i usually switch, depending on hero, it's so much better to adapt the keys by your needs. that problem happened to me to grimorum but it fixed after a client update, not sure if you should re install the game and see what happens
I've never had this problem using default invoker keys, but maybe do a re install on dota. The hot keys will take only a week or so to get used to as mentioned by @rambosalad
i don't use either. I made my own hotkeys that are a mix of the two... I hated qwer, and im not a Chinese spider so legacy wasn't for me.....
P.S If you use default the hotkeys will never break/bug, ive played since mid 2012 and I don't know anyone who used default and complained of bugged keys.
I switched to different (not default) keys on all heroes when I began playing dota 2. There were two important reasons for this. First picking keys that are a more natural fit to my hand is faster. 2nd using some sets of legacy keys causes pain...especially invoker, because if forces you to hold your hand in an awkward position.
I use W-E-R for the first three skills on all heros. This is faster than Q-W-E when your hand is on the natural "home keys". I used "D" for ults, again its faster, less reaching and there is a degree of mental separation from the first 3. I use F-G to cast extra skills...would be invoked skils...so your index finger is always doing that, again faster and no reach. If you set your hand on W-E-R, your shorter 4th finger is naturally positioned for "attack" clicking as well instead of reaching to hit "q". This makes csing, harassing, and orb walking easier. You know any invoke you do with quas is a bit slower because you use that finger.
I played random heroes my first 500 games and then filled out to 5 games whichever I had randomly missed to erase the legacy keys from muscle memory. For heroes I had played a lot this didn't quite work. It seems it takes more like 10-15 games to get your muscle memory to switch to the new hoykeys on well practiced (ie 100+ games dota 1 heroes)
With your enormous experience on invoker...who knows it might take even 30 games to really feel like you have it back to the point where you don't have to think. But I am certain you could be faster with the keys I suggested and it will cause less stress on your hands. I'm sorry I didn't realize you were still doing this or I would have brought it up before.
I have never had a hotkey break using these keys for 1500 games now.
If you have a problem with the mental connection to the letters q-w-e...you can re-label the keys. You could even change the letter they type. But the important thing is changing how your hand is positioned to reduced stress.
I'd really hate to switch, but playing with broken hotkeys is too frustrating. Although re-installing seems unlikely to fix the problem, I'll try it still.
Holy cow, I tested the combos 20 times with bots, it never broke. Re-installation really fixed it?
awesome to hear, now i'll be waiting to view your matches when you're online next! oh and question, when you're playing Earthshaker dire side;bot lane: and you're pulling ancients, do you think suiciding after the 3rd-4th pull is better seeing you would only be level 3-4 with no mana and a respawn time of 12 seconds? That is after you buy an item so you don't lose gold of cause.
i developed a perfect scenario for ES pulling ancients. If start with courier, 2 mantle and 2 branch, you'll have just enough to fissure 3 times. After 3rd pull, ES will have just enough for TP scroll. Suicide and lose only 10 gold, then TP back and pull again.

Without broken hotkeys, everything was so much smoother. It was such a big relief, spells came flying out with no hindrance!
Recently I have been getting those types of pubs, where I would chose invoker and then someone would demand mid after I do so. So I've been ancienting quite a bit, and jungling here and there. I managed to get a game with 5 dragon spawns in a row... how fun that was lol
7 games without incident. Too early to know for sure, but reinstalling seems to have fixed the bug. TY Yoshi!!!
Unfortunately, hotkey for blast broke again around my 14th game. Regardless, the bug seems to occur less often, for that I am grateful.
Earlier today I had a glitch, where I would have a spell invoked for "D" then I would invoke another spell, which would make the previous spell go to "F", but when I cancel to cast a spell it would use "F" all the time although I tried to cast with the "D" key. The problem has been fixed due to the update now.
Same boat as you, played hundreds of invoker games in D1 so I will never get used to QWER, and every now and then, my invoker legacy keys bugs out and can't cast spells.
What I do is mouse click the spell then use it on something, then after that the hotkeys return to normal
sounds hard for you bro but I started off with dota 2 like a noob. Dota 1 was hard for me ... like a noob! I should've started on dota 1 with my friends but ah well :/ d and f are actually easier for me. Cos i'm a noob in this thread :P
Relentless is right, I should change to default keys, but I am so used to legacy keys. I know it would be super ridiculously frustrating in the beginning. It would take too long for me to adjust cause my muscle memory for legacy keys is set in stone.
I changed to QWER three weeks ago (after Legacy for 7 years) for the sake of efficiency and saw my win rate drop to 20-ish%. Even my most played heroes felt totally alien to me and I lost alot of focus, resulting in reduced map awareness and alot of mis-timed spells during chaotic team fights. Took me two weeks to get used to, feels very natural now but haven't tried a few heroes yet.
Update: more than 60 days now, my hotkey only broke 3 times. Before the re-installation, the bug happened everyday; it was too frustrating to attempt Invoker with refresher orb.
youtube.com/xacrez, I want to thank you again! Without your recommendation, I could not have completed the gameplay for Raging Fury 6.

Dev has acknowledged this problem since May 2012.... but it seems they don't care.
Every other game, my legacy hotkeys break, wtf! It often happens with Deaf Blast and Sunstrike.
Last game, someone recommended default D and F keys because it isn't buggy.
I tried default keys many times, but it is so frustrating! I keep using D for meteor, but it sometimes requires F.
I don't know if I can ever get used to default keys since I've been using legacy keys for thousands of invoker games.
Is it worth it? Do hotkeys ever break in default hotkey settings? How is your invoking speed affected?
