General DiscussionMuting somebody is the wrong approach in a teambased game

ive played against (i think) though idk if i was the one that reported u! :p
i report like 10 players a day and keep going!

reasons i report! u dont acknoledge u suck after failing, treating me like im stupid, consecutively failing at the same, not listening me after i mass ping/wp, flaming and not backing up with skill, etc

i have close to 2.5k games on my main and have never managed to be muted once >.< if i dont like wat my team is saying i just mute them i dont really report people unless they intentionally feeding

I find most of the reasons you report idiotic. You should never under no ever circumstances ever flame your teammates! It is a teamgame and an easy way to win games is keep the spirit up.

This was my first ever time i got muted and the weird thing is that i am actually a mannered guy and I dont trashtalk when winning and the day i got reported i won like 6 games in a row :D

well that guy made a good job already with estimation of skilllevel. It is so much effort and work to do an estimation of a personsskilllevel. Some people got unjustified to high ranking or to low ranking but that will work itself out in the long term.
Also I don't want to really stop playing :D But if it happens again i go on my smurf acc :/

People want to report all the time for being bad. That's not what reporting is for. It's for intentional abuse, either intentionally playing bad, or being an all around jerk.

agree poland. mute system has no clear rules and is a dumb automated system. what pisses me off may not piss you off, and vice-versa. many people get mad at small stuff like not calling miss or picking a hero they consider imbalanced, and thus you get reports for absolutely nothing.

I don't know how Tribunal system works in LoL, yet I heard it gets the job done.

Would be interesting to see how well it can perform in Dota2.

You get muted -> Lose more games -> Get angry because you could won if you weren't muted -> Don't get muted again

I think the system gets this job done.

The system would work fine if they banned people who abuse the report system.

Yeah I do agree with some points but I dont not agree that having real friends has influence on the tone or anything alike

In my special case I try to keep all the negative stuff for myself and try to praise everyone in my team for the smallest thing and try to be entertaining if something funny happens. If I say negative stuff I try to not let that person in particular know cause he is part of my team and I do not try to demotivate him and only encourage him. Even for the smallest thing. It is a teamgame!
After teamwipes or rampages I like to shout "YEAAAAHHH!!!! GOOD JOB" on voicechat!

This part is just for my allies(which can report me) but the enemies I do remain quiet except the mandatory "GG" (regardless of the flow of the game). Unless something funny happens or he likes to say the untruth about his teammates failing. E.G. when they say that solo mid SF sucks even though he devastated me in the lane and had a big impact or a bigger impact on the game than the other player.

Anyways what you merely listed might help or encourage but it is not a free ticket for not getting muted.

Please tell me a way of not getting muted. There is not a way you can secure yourself from getting reported. You can get reported for stomping someone in the lane, for picking a rune, for waiting for a very certain moment to initiate, you can get reported for getting a lasthit, you can get reported for not getting a lasthit.

Some people are not aware of some things such as different skill builds and item builds!

Like some people dont know the strengths(or not at all) of radiance naga siren or if you play brood with or without spiders
And that you can get reported for that... oh well :D

someone was harassing me about building drums on BH saying 'he only needs dmg items' and reported me for it.

yeah... ive reported for tryharding too hrad vs me... 24/7 trilane/4lane mid, trading kills actually and they still troll me in chat

but yeah i dont support the mute but im muted a week every week... surpisingly ive been unmuted for 3 days now :p
so i just get back at them and report :). and it happens to be all those noob scrubs piece of shit that defy me that report me (so i get them banned ;D)

u can say im sharing my mute with the ones getting me muted in the first place :)

I get reported allot, for feeding when playing as support, for feeding and not ganking when playing mid, for feeding and not farming when playing carry, and still did not get low priority or muted yet, in over 1300 games. Of course, most of these reports came from stacks.

Probably you got some legit reports at one point and then you got into the automated system.

Edit: today I got my first set of reports for picking shitty abilities in ability draft, lol.

Also it does not matter if a stack reports you, only one report per game has affect on you to prevent stack reporting into instant mute

Keep waisting your reports for nothing, and when you'll really need it, you'll be without them :) Not saying i dont occasionally report 0-10 players for intentional feeeding, while they only suck so hard.

As for muting goes... It sucks playing with a 4 stack, who can easily mute you for few days, even if you dont really do nothing wrong. I managed to win games while muted, if i'm sincere - it actually can help you, because you focus way more on playing, then fighting with the team. I've seen some 6k players with big win streaks while muted, so it can be done on all levels.

I'm glad the increased the report amount now. It was only like 4 per week? Now it seems its 10 per week?

Commends needs to be increased from 6 per week though.

i honestly agree with you, ive been on both ends of the mute and it sucks on both sides. they should remove it and make it entirely LPQ imo.

Commends need to be made either friendlier or more rewarding, either its pointless

I think they should just add buttons on the endscreen for commends or slight slight chances to get better reward however last one can be abuseable so a low amound of commends per week is suggested! OR as battlebonus, unstackable and only for one person which lasts for like a week and is just like 10% increase

yes however people can report you for anything

2 Big points have to be changed

1. Under what circumstances a user can be punished (so a user can not get reported for nothing) and which regulations apply. Automated is just so abuseable.
2. The punishment should look different... how about deprived of itemdrop or chance drastically decreased, no ranked games, no battlebonus, looonger time to find matches... anything alike. Or something that would give an account bonuses drops or gain if not reported for a while

Does the mute function get put on people on a report? Or is it when people hit the mute function from the player list and when it reaches a threshold does it then mute you? I just mute people if they are being insta dota-holes. Need mute function on player list overlay to overlap on captains mode/draft though since muting during draft is required sometimes. Player list should pop over the draft window...
