I've played dota casually since WC3 and have been trying to play a little better lately but always seem to hover around 5-600 gpm and xpm. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you winning games? 500 gpm on a carry will win most games. 500 gpm is kind of a baseline for good performance imo. If you have a really even match that goes late like 35-35 at 45 mins each teams carries will probably be around 450.

5-600 gpm and xpm is normal. by that i mean that even if you get better and start playing against better opponents that would still be roughly your gpm/xpm. when you get higher gpm/xpm it's probably a stomp.

        Chris.

I can lend you only some tips if you promise to give them back asap

Yeah, I've been winning a lot lately.(I think 66% in the last month) I've also been trying a lot harder haha. I only recently started to care about this kind of stuff so I wasn't sure what was average. I never seem to have that mega explosive game though 8,9,1000 x/gpm

well that was just one of the things I had noticed about myself. I assumed they kind of went hand in hand

                  Chris.

Okay, here's my tip: Don't miss lasthits during the laning stage and don't waste time doing nothing. I love to do that, thats why I am a noob

Last hitting needs work that's for sure but that's a good point. Here's a scenario. Let's say you're radiant and you just pushed bottom tower (your lane). It's kind of dangerous to stick around on their side of the river and there aren't any real ganking chances at the moment. What should I do there?

                      Chris.

Depends on which hero you play. If they lack stuns and you have a good escape hero you can stick around. If not, I would rather switch the lane of jungle a bit.

XPM/GPM and good play/winning do not necessarily correlate. What I mean is you can have a dominant performance and you won't hit those huge gpm numbers. Those huge numbers are usually posted by afk farmers who farm a ton then come in and score a bunch of kbs quickly to end game or heroes with built in gold advantages like bounty and he snowballs. For example, two games I won mid on viper, over 7kda on both, most hero dmg on both, lots of tower dmg, my gpm is around 550.

What you farm isn't as important as the differential between your farm and the enemies. Getting 450 gpm when their carry is at 350 means you will win most times.
