When you are retreating from that lost teamfight because your retarded teammate overextended/didn't disable the most dangerous hero/kept infuriating every teammate/etc, freeze him so he's left behind. Then say: "Oops, sorry man, I wanted to heal you".
Although it seems like she is a good support, she is an awesome mid-lane semi carry! Spam Arctic Burn on enemy every time it is off cooldown (use the high range to auto attack him a few times), get Bottle asap, treads, then Orchid and proceed to buy carry items (Skadi works very well on the hero).
This works well enough in the test client, might work out different in actual balanced non-leaver non-trench games in the main client later.
Artic burn is crazily op on the lane, WW will be on the lvl of sky, if not higher in terms of zooning. and hell, it's ult is so HUGE.
Just think it like an uncancellable ranged blackhole, that damage a specific target.
I'm not exactly sure if that ultimate can be balanced, even if it doesn't bypass bkb.
Facing both WW and wind runner, is like, no1 in middle of the lane, or the ww ult is blocking everything, no1 on the side of the lane, else you get auto shackeled to a tree.
She's a great offlaner/mid ganker I guess. Great waveclear, solid lane presence, and a pseudo escape mechanic. I don't know how to feel about this hero, it just feels like other heroes fit her role much better. Centaur comes to mind.
Her ultimate is pretty sweet though, too bad it has such a short duration and radius, it's pretty strong otherwise.
The hero is perfectly balanced:
The ulti is not like a range black hole but more like a range berserkers call that bypases bkb as well which is nice, but its duration is not that long so it doesn't feel OP = 3 sec at lvl 16
Arctic burn is indeed really nice for zoning but it's nowhere near skywrath since it has a long ass cd - 50/40/30/20 - so u can't just spam it like crazy + u might need it for escape if lane is hard so u get my point.
The only thing i find really strong about the hero is the heal which stays useful at all stages and heals a lot for little mana cost and u can spam it in lane. Second skill is ok i guess deals good dmg.
I played two games with him as a support with two different skill builds : 1st game - max 1st skill then max 3rd and it didn't felt right and i didn't get so much out of the hero in lane stage. Second game i went 1-4-4 and hero felt really strong in lane. And since maxing 1st skill gives u more range but no more dmg i don't see a reason to max it first at all.
My second game was against a brood and i can tell u that when i ulti on her in the middle of her broodlings + second skill on one of them i had a boner :D . I finally think brood has a nice counter apart from axe
WW + Axe combo looks op...

This hero sounds really really good with Oracle. Can't wait to try him out.
Edit: also sounds really fun against blademail, the whole team killing themself hehe
@napcake, levelling the first skill is mostly for the cooldown and more slow. At level 1 it's as much as 50 seconds cooldown, which is almost like an ultimate. For each level it goes down by 10 seconds until 20, which means you can spam it more.

And so far, the hero has debuted with approximately 44% winrate. That's pretty good, considering new heroes usually start at their absolute worst.
trash hero. oracle. what?
also, what the fuck is up with me picking winter wyvern and my team feeding/abandoning/being full retard
seriously out of 5 games, 2 abandons, 1 mid qop 1/20 (awful), 1 feeding team with offlane doom getting 14 min AGHS, and one decent game that i was a ward bitch.
looks like WW is anti initiator or strong initiator,
just look that ulti to their initiator.. and watch their carry rape their initiator ^^
or maybe their carry get rekt by her ulti
^ That doesnt work because her ulti AoE is way too small. There is almost no chance to get a ranged hero attack one of his allies. It is okayish for counter initiation but not strong. The cast point of WW is also not good enough, so that most heroes such as Void or ES get their ults off anyway. The best thing so far about that ult is that it doesn't get purged by Kraken shell, making it possible for you to take out the tidehunter before he can ult.
Oh, and it's really good against heroes like CM and Enigma, because you can cancel there ults from far away despite them having BKB.
@Schultz guy
That's the standard procedure of 80% of dota players when a new hero is released.
Since most passive abilities don't work on her ulti (crits, bash, any chance stuff, orbs other than deso and skadi), similar to "mute", it is actually not that strong if you compare to Axe's 10s cd taunt of near the same duration. It's not as easy to get a lot of people in curse since the aoe is based on the hero you hit (although the extra 50 range helps a bit), while Axe, Magnus and other aoe initators can make their "circle" in the middle of the enemies to catch more.
Would be fun to see her with a dark seer though, and a fat tiny should still kill his wisp easily.
Can someone tell me how to counter him. I have no idea about that. I am going to play my first match of the day, and i am pretty sure at in normal skill bracket, you will see him at every game.
I think with hereos that get desolator like a wk or heroes that just deal large amounts of damage like tiny or ck illusions
Anything that blinks on ww shits on her, magic dmg burst too. Like every other hero except a few exception.
Actually that ice block thing is quite good for escaping. Unless he is alone in the middle of nowhere, these 4 seconds of physical dmg immunity are good enough to escape from a pa or slark.
^no because shes just gonna one shot you after the icecage, even with forcestaff, she will blink. The best escape is juke into highground/trees with arctic burn.
I hadn't read this, but apparently, Winter Wyvern was underwhelming enough to actually receive buffs with her porting.
6.83c
Arctic Burn
- Increased slow duration from 4 to 5 to match the burn duration.
- Now fully pierces spell immunity.
- Now only grants the night vision bonus when casting the spell for its duration, instead of being a passive component.
Splinter Blast
- Splinter Blast is now blocked by Linken's Sphere icon.png Linken's Sphere.
Cold Embrace
- Now pierces spell immunity.
- Stun and heal/physical immunity now use the same buff, instead of being 2 independent buffs.
This means the stun component is no longer dispellable.
Winter's Curse
- Winter's Curse now also forces spell immune units to attack the target.
Another aoe piercing bkbs. Yay, I actually like theses kinds of abilities like RPs, except axes call which should have at least a 20sec cd.
People will have to mind their position more often in pubs, relying on a bkb to become invincible is lame.

Haven't seen a thread specifically for the new hero yet, and I wanted to know some opinions about her/him/it
Overall seems like a good anti-carry and anti-tank hero in general based of the abilities
