Playing with lower MMR players to get easy money can back fire, lucky all my big bets have paid off.
I can accept a loss based on even odds, is the failures leading to a loss that I have hard times dealing with. Game is easy, so are coins. I am gambling with win rate for free hats :)

Well, that's kinda the mindset of most of the Dota players, people can accept a loss, but not the reasons leading up to it, so I don't think you're any different from everyone else.
You tell a Pudge " don't even think about hooking one of them, all 5 of them are there, and it's just you, i know that squishy witch doctor looks like a nice juicy squishy kill but don't."
Fast forward 5 seconds:
*hooks the Witch Doctor* then the whole enemy team swarms the Pudge, then he's dead, and then blames his team not being there.

I find with lower parties (not 5 stacks) you can make huge bets of 1k and win randoming a hero you think you can carry with. If you random a bad hero bet lower cause you might lose.
I don't have charms to abuse and I dunno if they give you anything good anymore beyond levels. I won't do that win trading for charms but if you can find some fun friends around 3kish then have some fun games, win/lose some ranked, but be smart about betting coins and you'll come out on top.
