Forfeit? in General Discussion

I've recently had "one of those DOTAs". You know, the typical "feed hard, flame much, feel powerless towards an unstoppable enemy". Sounds familiar? Well, it probably does if you're a 3,5k scrub like me. A game like this one: http://www.dotabuff.com/matches/2277373438

The thing is, at about the 12-16 minute mark, I saw the score and thought, "Fuck it, why bother? It's not like we're turning this thing around. Our players aren't getting the space they need, and those who are failing hard, are not precisely doing any better". At that moment, I remembered that some MOBAs have a "Forfeit" feature: if you get enough votes from the "forfeiting team", you can end the match. Why hasn't this been implemented in mainstream DOTA? Competitive games already have this option. The closest thing we have is the full team DC, but if you have a troll in your team it's over; and abandoning a match is penalized by the system.

Has anybody else come across this scenario? I believe it would be less demoralizing and toxic to just forfeit, walk it off, blow some steam, take a break and start a fresh new match, than being stuck 15-30 additional minutes in a game that is nowhere near even, until you feel so dirty that you have to come to dotabuff to whine for a while.

What's the point in punching an opponent that cannot defend itself?

    Cheers

TELL YOUR GIRL TO WASH HE...

It's the only thing that sets dota apart from all other mobas. Because of this nature of the game, we have produced matches that have 40k team networth gold swings, cinema-esque comebacks and opportunities to try hard and hold on to the very end.

Besides, the game needs to keep its identity as the most gritty and hardcore game of its genre.

      Swap Commends

Ignore new features Bcuz there are never going to be implemented by Volvo.
Remember : the inevitable reasons that makes u lose are also for the enemy team.Like DC,troll, feed, lack of skills & stuff. So its just luck.Sometimes shit does just happen.
You have 50%+ wr in ranked which is a good thing. So no worries.
Since you are a support player,I suggest u play more aggressive supports.Add venom & jakiro to ur hero pool.GL.

if you want to forfeit a horribly behind game and you think all your teammates will agree, or at least a majority of them

just say end mid and feed couriers??

          Pardo

@captainsmode Well, I'm not saying that DOTA should not have all the things you've mentioned. I'm well aware that comeback mechanics have been implemented in order to allow teams to revert their situation. Still, I believe it should be available as an option. Tournament matches fit nicely into your description, yet allow for forfeiting. Additionally, I don't think "forfeiting" takes "its identity as the most gritty and hardcore game of its genre", it actually improves sportmanship.

@GetGud Thanks, mate, I'll take your suggestions into account. I'm a hardcore support, and I believe that if I get my hands in more aggressive supports, I can actually make a change in the shitty skill bracket I'm in.

@nami Well, I try to be a good sport. Going "end mid" and feeding couriers is not actually a very consensual decision, and will probably result in reports and unnecessary toxicity, which will lead to the same as abandoning the game. I've had a really shitty internet connection in the past, and I've had my fair share of games in low priority due to excessive DCs. Just like reoffenders, "I ain't going back".

screw being a good sport lol

there exists a method to 'forfeit' games when everyone agrees to it, not defending and feeding couriers like i said, so there shouldn't be issue since everyone is okay with it, this is already done in 'absolutely helpless games'

if you create an actual in game forfeit option, you incite the act of giving up in winnable games

              Survivor

We have a very broken comeback feature in DOTA, there r countless of games won from unwinnable positions

you can stop fighting, but i dont know, even that is hard so feed more, have some fun, in my io game we got so fucked and outfucked https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/2271154555, + the clockwork had a terrible lag, but we all fought to the end.
