When your new just learn the game try your best to learn the mechanics, the heroes, and the items. I suggest playing a different hero pretty much every game until you learn what they all do, then you can specialize later on. The only problem is that your teammates may hate you if you don't know what you're doing, so bot games are always in option. You can add me if you need further help, good luck have fun!
Best advice is with cosmetics is use opportunities which give you chances to get free sets rather than spending money on buying treasure chests. Often some heroes will get heaps and heaps and heaps of sets some of which even look good but you can only have one equipped at a time so if you get another set for the hero which you don't want to use, open it up, unpack the items, and then recycle them to get a charm. If you then correctly predict a win before the beginning of the match 3 times then you get another free treasure chest (which might have a set for a hero you don't have).
Don't think that just because you don't have to buy heroes that this game isn't a money sink. I think I'm down well over $300+ on cosmetics/TI compendium levels. Oh also buy the TI compendium if you haven't yet. You get some good stuff which is unique for compendium owners (though some of the older compendium stuff like TI4 immortals/music/hud etc stuff can be bought on the market for extra $). Things like the collectors cache though are untradeable so you have to own the compenidum to buy those sets.
Number one piece of advice is to ignore any advice on this forum. Its filled with trolls and Memers.
Rather continue to watch Purge as you say you have been, get some friends and play in a party so they understand that youre still new. But seeing as youve played LoL you should be able to pick it up quite quickly.
Also dont let the toxic community get to you, just mute and move on.

Just random every game (lterally), Ull find the heroes u like doing this. + Every time open in-game guides (dont follow valve ones - total piece of sheat)
Be friendly. This will really win you games. Also: dont try to focus on one single role. Maybe choose a lane you really like to play (for example: safelane carry) and a 2nd role you are also not bad with, which is not the Mid or safelane carry. It is really rare that ppl want to play support, so this role is always free.

Hey guys, relatively new Dota 2 player. Came from League, really started not to like League anymore, have played Dota 2 multiple times and am starting to really get into it, liking it a lot more that LoL. I read the reddit "new to Dota 2" thing as well as few Purge guides and some things on DotaCinema. I know the basics as well as a few heroes, such as brewmaster and tiny specifically which I highly enjoy playing, and got down a few mechanics like pulling, stacking, rune management, etc, so I'm not necessarily a complete new player but I'm still a relative noob. I'm trying still grasp items and heroes and the roles as well as the meta and am trying to improve. With that, does anyone have any tips or suggestions for a noob like me? Everyone's help would be much appreciated, thank you. Cheers.
