Basically when powersliding when entering a corner you send your rear into a slide turning in either by plain power from the rear wheel, locking your rear wheels by handbrake, or manipulating your weight via pendulum swing(scandinavian flick)
On a drift, you just slide from the start to finish and try to sustain that slide for shits and giggles

Hillclimbing is a crazy motorsport discipline. Even I'm amazed how they know exactly when to ease off the gas and when to go flatout. But to be fair they have crazy strong braking systems and acceleration speeds to really navigate well. Also I think there's a sort of recce before they get their official run while being timed.
Im an expert driver whos never driven a car IRL lel. But I only know enough about systems of cars and how they work. I basically read a Toyota manual for our 97 rolla for fun as a kid.

Drifting will only make you lose time especially in tarmac/asphalt/cement surfaces. And they are hardly ever practical compared to powerslides.
