I'm pretty sure the new calibration was just designed to contract the mmr difference. And they said specifically that yoiur old ranked would be used to determine the start of your new calibration.
no they specifically said a new season would be seed by the previous seasons mmr, but their was no previous season this time so its perfectly possible that in order to first deflate the system they used everyones normal match making rating.
which means on cookies 4k acc, it was probably 2.5k and cookies got it to 4.1
your calibration is based on your previous mmr, nmm hidden rating is not considered
all the 8k+ dropped due to forced mmr deflation which apparently was one of the goals of rating reset overall.

They used your hidden mmr, normalmatchmaking hidden mmr for this first season calibration, which would explain the huge drops for some players, while others stayed the same.
