When to rotate lanes? in General Discussion

When is it a good situation to rotate lanes? (swapping safe and hard lanes) I am not interested in applying it to my games due to lack of coordination. It's just that every time that I am watching a pro match and casters go like "Hey this is a good situation to rotate lanes" or "This rotation really won team X's early game" I get lost, I just don't understand why they would swap lanes, when they wouldn't and why the other team doesn't counter rotate
Can someone explain me these things?

takes some game understanding tho,i ever played ls carry and i infest to cm/i forgot, some support that has a stun then we both gank mid together, was fighting ld mid
easy gold and you just tp back

I think you may have some confusion about what 'rotate' means. usually when people say 'rotate' in a dota context they mean the supports going to a different lane to get something done.

You seem to be using it in a more normal non-dota usage where you switch up the cores to get a more favourable matchup. for example, moving a tide from offlane to safelane to face an offlane brood or switching a melee safelane to the offlane to avoid laning against bristle.

and yes, often the other team will switch lanes as well. generally always best to be the proactive party and switch when you choose rather than chasing someone around the map though.

They usually scout ahead to see which hero is where, then they walk all the way to the other lane to avoid a certain herobefore the game starts. Once the enemy notices the lane swap, It would be pointless to TP there because if they do enemy just TPs back to that lane. and they can't afford to walk all that way to the other side of the map and miss all the creeps. It's sometimes not this simple though, I have seen them sometimes go to a lane from start, then as soon as they get spotted they change lane (they trick the enemy), or when enemy invades their jungle for first blood and they notice the hero there, the hero immediately starts changing lanes because He knows enemy counter is going to show up in that lane.
