Hello there. If you want to get some tips about playing supports I can help you (i`m not Immortal but still). It`s impossible to critisize or approve your game plan, because every game is different and requires different actions. Add me in steam and ask every question you are interested in.
First start by picking the meta supports find one that suits your playstyle and go from there. Current meta lich is one of my staples.
Dying a lot from trying to save teammates is not bad if your team is able to use that space well. If anyone with a higher farm priority than you is in danger, and you can go in there, throw spells out, and make them focus you while your core gets away, that's worthwhile.
You have to have a very discerning eye though about whether it will indeed save them or whether they're dead anyway. Leaving them to die is always better than having two deaths.
You will often see in pro games that a support will be solo defending a tower push against four enemies while the team is taking another tower. The support in that case is buying an extra five or ten seconds by depushing the wave and juking into the trees, making the enemies have to put in some substantial effort and use some spells in order for them to kill him and take the tower. This can buy time for a few things, like having your team finish pushing the tower and then TPing in to fight 4v5, which they can take when the eney has several spells on cooldown. Or it might just let your team finish pushing the tower so that the enemy can't TP back to it to fight. All situational.
Thanks for advices. I guess one answer is just experience and practise. Although I did play a lich game earlier and he is OP.
what @waitforme said is true. I tried playing aggressively and try hard to make space for my carry on the other side of the map. also buy smokes and place offensive wards since u will be going back often.
i started winning a handful of games ever since. Apply pressure to relieve pressure. Doesnt matter if u die if u make space for ur carry on the other side of the map. U kinda want the enemy who is pressuring ur carry to rotate to ur lane. force 5 heroes to focus on u and waste their time.
First thing you have to learn as support is you have to know who the idiot is in your team. Next is the carry u can trust. You tailor you play to this principle protect the smart let the idiot die just not too much. You have to make the idiot know how good you are (usually enough by picking supp and having more kill than him) so he can adhere to your command. So depends on the draft u must 1 wait if the carry is late game 2 go push every 5 mins(becuz catapult) 3 adjust your item so you as support can make it harder for enemy carry .
In the end it all comes down to this, u win when u as a support is tiliting enemy carry. I can give you 100% on that.

So I came back after a quite long break and decided I want to focus on learning support since it's probably what I'm best at and mostly it can help the team win. My best heroes are ones I can gank with and have impact in teamfight: Lion, Shadow Shaman, Venge etc. or BH if enemy got lot of invis hero.
Normally my game plan is to:
1) Help set up ganks and boost morale
2) Always tp to other lane to help if teamfight is happening
3) Place helpful wards depending on where we are pressuring or where enemy is pressuring, or to keep late farming carry safe
Biggest weakness:
1) Dying a lot from trying to save team mates (partly cos they flame you and create bad morale if you don't try)
2) Getting really underlevelled because I am roaming often to try and set up ganks
I watch a lot of Purge who plays support and pro teams but obviously my games don't happen on that level and I was wondering if there was something specific I should prioritise to help improve my play because I've lost most of my games so far and yet I feel like I have played pretty well apart from dying a lot.
